Every surface carries a history. Beneath what is immediately visible lie traces of experience, structures of power, systems of belief, emotional undercurrents, and material realities that shape how we encounter the world.
‘Under the Skin of Things’ brings together artists whose work moves beyond appearance to examine the forces, histories, and relationships embedded within contemporary life. Across different media and approaches, the exhibition reveals hidden tensions, overlooked narratives, subtle connections, and the conditions that quietly shape individuals, communities, environments, and cultures.
The works presented here engage with memory, place, identity, ecology, politics, technology, the body, and material processes. Some uncover what has been concealed or neglected; others attend to ambiguity, contradiction, and the limits of what can be fully understood or made visible.
Rather than offering a single interpretation, the exhibition creates a space for multiple perspectives. It asks what surfaces conceal, what they preserve, and what becomes visible when we look more closely. In doing so, ‘Under the Skin of Things’ reflects on the experiences, systems, and relationships that form our shared realities.
The artists whose work features in this exhibition are: Amy Kerrane, Ben Baker & The Professors, Caroline Ingham, Christina Wigmore, Christine Barry, Claudia Ungersbäck, Dave Parsons, David Bisson, Deborah Buxton, Ecaterina Tiuhta, Gordon Massman, Ian Lillicrapp, Jane Eves, Ksenia Zelentsova, Ling (Yiling Cao), Lostnorfound, lucy fennell, Mark Cawood, Maryam Pakdel Moghadam, Monica Dhaka, Muchuan, Nadine Easby, Natasha Haydon, Nicholas Walster, Nick Barratt, Oluwaseun Elizabeth Adelaja, Pascale Pollier-Green, Paula Armstrong, Ronald Charles Cowdery, Ruiqi Zhang, Ryu Satake, Sett Azadi, Veda Hallowes, Wenn Joseph.
