We carry more than we can see.
Across bodies, objects, places and generations, things accumulate: memories, histories, responsibilities, knowledge, attachments and traces of experience. Some are deliberately preserved; others remain without our choosing. They can give us a sense of continuity and belonging, while others become weights we seek to release.

What We Carry brings together artists who consider carrying not simply as a physical act, but as a condition of living. Through painting, photography, sculpture, installation, mixed media and other forms of contemporary practice, the exhibition explores how experiences and histories remain present and move between people, materials and places.

A body may carry the marks of experience; an object may retain evidence of touch and use; a landscape may hold the consequences of human intervention; and materials may contain histories of making and transformation. The works also consider less visible forms of carrying; inheritance, cultural knowledge, emotional weight, displacement, responsibility and what passes between generations.

Moving between personal, social, material and environmental perspectives, What We Carry asks what we choose to hold onto, what we attempt to leave behind, and what continues with us as we move through the world.
